About

Martin Dufva is a molecular biologist who took his PhD in Virology at University of Gothenburg. He joined the Technical University of Denmark in 2001 and has since then worked with high throughput analysis systems and organ modelling. His effort on the latter started with being one of the first demonstrating culturing of cell lines on a chip on a microscope stage. From there, Martin developed microfluidics solution for highly parallel fluidics systems and moved on to 3D culturing including structuring of hydrogels substrates, spheroids cultures and differentiation of stem cells under flow. At present, Martin’s efforts are to combine several tissue models into one unit for studying drug delivery. His interest for HTS application started with DNA and protein microarrays. He developed surface chemistries and genetic assays. Lately he has used high density peptide arrays and high throughput sequencing for epitope mapping. Currently he is investigating a novel platform to perform screening using single molecules analysis, and non-growing organisms. Furthermore, Martin is developing  and leading a MSc program in advanced materials and healthcare engineering.

About the Technical University of Denmark

The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is one of the biggest technical universities in northern Europe. In 2010, DTU was ranked as No. 1 in Scandinavia and No. 7 in Europe. DTU has 10.000 students with 25 international MSc programs, and 400 new PhD students yearly. The Department for Micro- and Nanotechnology (DTU-Nanotech) represents a cross-disciplinary research environment where micro- and nanotechnology are applied to a wide range of scientific disciplines, e.g. mechanics, optics, chemistry, medical technologies, and biotechnology.
