16 Sep Virtual Brain Organoid Symposium
OrganoVIR, in collaboration with STEMCELL Technologies, will be hosting the virtual Brain Organoid Symposium on the 9th of October 2020!
Organoids have rapidly transformed researchers’ ability to model human tissues in vitro. In neural research, organoids have revolutionized the study of brain development, health, and disease by enabling direct observations in human tissue—previously a significant challenge for both practical and ethical reasons.
Brain organoids present a unique opportunity for researchers to study viral pathogenesis in a human tissue model. During this virtual symposium, Drs. Vivi Heine (Amsterdam UMC), Veronica Krenn (IMBA), and Melvin Evers (uniQure) discuss how brain organoids are providing powerful model systems for understanding health and disease in a human-specific context.
The symposium will take place on Friday the 9th of October 2020 from 14:00 till 16:00 PM CEST time.
During the symposium, the following three topics will be discussed:
- Development of brain organoid models to study human neural development and disease (Dr. Vivi Heine)
- Modeling pathogenesis of infectious disease using brain organoids and their applications in virology research (Dr. Veronica Krenn)
- Application of human-specific neural disease models in therapeutic development (Dr. Melvin Evers)
